On Friday night, after a very tasty dinner of burgers and $4 drinks at Draft – a group of us went to the Nature Research Center opening at the NC Museum of Natural Science in downtown Raleigh.

The Center is a brand new addition – or well whole building – to the museum and has some very high tech exhibits, including one on the Chevy Volt and another on how your brain works.  It also has some awesome setups for visitor/researcher interaction within in the museum, with several scientists having labs with glass walls in the museum so visitors can see what they’re working on and often, get to sit in and chat with the scientists.  There is a lot more than I’m describing here though – check out some articles from this weekend from the News and Observer and WRAL.

On Friday and Saturday, they had a 24 hour opening – from 5pm Friday to 5pm Saturday.  The thought of checking out a museum late-night sounded too fun to pass up – so we went around 9:30 and left around 11:30 (ok, so only kind of late night!  I hear the 3am crowd was a hoot!).  There was a street festival going on outside and lots going on inside.  The new Center is a great addition to Raleigh and I recommend checking it out!
